Disillusioned, describes the post I put up yesterday called How To Network Market Day 1

In Today’s post I fast forward several years and share an interesting story and then leave you with a positive  MLM secret.

When I failed several years ago with the two Network Marketing companies I joined, I discovered that I wasn’t ballsy enough to walk up to stranger and recruit them.  I was lead challenged!  :-)

Interestingly enough I developed skills out of necessity.

After I failed miserably I moved on.  I started a couple of businesses.  Some successful, some not.  However, what became clear is that I had a knack for Online Niche Marketing and I was getting really good at using the Interent to generate leads and sales.  I was making a nice income from Online Marketing.

Since, I was in the Internet Marketing business I stumbled and ended up following Mike Dillard.  He authored a piece titled Magnetic Sponsoring and many believe this was the original Attraction Marketing Model.  Basically Mike Dillard went from busing tables to being a millionaire within 5 or 6 years.  He credits the Magnetic Sponsoring method.  I read his book and it is a good read.  I think this is where I was first exposed to the “Funded Proposal” philosophy.

Ok so here is where things get interesting…

I live somewhat out in the country outside of Dallas, TX and everybody knows that the energy cost are crazy expensive.  The problem is that we need to use so much of it during the Summer months.  I’ve had bills as high as $980 in  single month.

Don’t worry I am not preparing to pitch you on an Energy MLM!  :-)  This detail is actually necessary for this story.

We established that I was paying a lot for electricity right?  Well I haven’t told you this part.  I am a great complainer sometimes.  And one day,  I was moaning and groaning about my electricity cost, normally I do this right after the bill shows up.

As luck would have it, my freind started working at a new job and the owner was big into Network Marketing.  In fact, he was a millionaire a couple times over.  He was in several MLM companies and he was doing really well to say the least.  One of the companies was an energy company called Ambit.  And although I have not confirmed it, he was racking in about 50 to 60k a month just from Ambit.

But I digress…

My friend signed up and became a consultant for Ambit.  But she didn’t directly try to recruit me.  Instead she sent me to a website to do a Kilowatt comparison against what I was paying.  I actually share this entire story in great detail (with a video) at Network Marketing Business.

I did am electricity cost comparison and quickly discovered that I would save roughly $600 a year just by switching.  I did it online and there weren’t any fees.  As a matter a fact, as it turned out I think I almost saved $1500 just during the summer months.

Ok so now I’m a customer and saving a lot of money, she then hits me up to become a consultant.  I reluctantly agreed.  I figured why not.  Seems to be a good business model.  Instead of trying to get people to spend money on lotions, potions and pills, I could save them money.

For the first several months I didn’t do anything with the business.  My friend and I went to a few training and they were good but as I listened I realized that I had not changed and worse yet the recruitment methods being taught by the MLM companies hadn’t changed.  I still didn’t like getting out and chasing people down in the Walmart parking lot to see if they wanted to join.

I asked my friend, since she was my up-line what I should do and she basically said to write down on a piece of paper, all of my warm market.  The people I know and then start having a conversation with them about the business.

Then it hit me like a ton of bricks!

Why was I trying to sell something to somebody that had no interest in what I was offering?  I learned this lesson while I was marketing online.  It’s all about the Niche.  That was the key I needed to target the folks I wanted to get as leads.

I shared my plan with my friend and she DID NOT LIKE IT.

She said again to me….you need to write up your list and talk to those people.

I explained to her, why wouldn’t I use my sales funnel to take leads through the pipeline and warm them up and then close them at the end, once they know what I have to offer.  Once they KNOW, LIKE and TRUST me?  Seems to me that it is a better use of my time!  True Leverage.

You ever get to the point when your trying to explain something to a friend and they kinda zone you out?

That’s what I was getting.  :-)

So I went off and built my funnel.  I call it the Attraction Marketing Sales Funnel and it rocks!

Is there really such a thing as "Job Security?"

Clearly the way things are playing out in 2011, it doesn't seem that you can depend on a corporate job to provide you the security you seek.  I've heard of too many hard luck stories to believe that you can trust anybody but yourself.

I've been an entrepreneur for many years and my wife and I have been on opposing sides of this debate… She believes, and feels more comfortable with the thought of getting paid every two weeks.  I, on the other hand, believe that it is worth the risk to take matters in your own hands.  I'm not sure we will ever be in agreement. 

Nevertheless, whether you want to establish job security or just increase your income, starting a home based business is a great idea.  Not to mention it can set you FREE!

Take me for example, although I am involved in many different disciplines, I've learned how to monetize my expertise.  If I'm not making any sense, then you obviously haven't visited my Revenue Streams page.  My background is working in call centers, I've learned how to monetize this industry for my benefit.  But even more importantly is that it exposed me to other revenue streams.

How awesome is that?

To be honest I didn't start off making a car load of cash… be weary of this rhetoric, it simply is not the norm, and although t may happen for some, it is clear that this is the exception.

I originally set out to make a TON of money, but ultimately became fascinated with the technology Internet Marketers used to make money online.  I enjoy working on projects like this.  So after awhile the money wasn't the important point – but of course that's easy to say when you have it, right? 

I love the process now…

But I digress. 

Hands down, having a home based business is the best initiative that I've pursued,  You may find it is for you too.

Recently I attended the Internet Marketing Bootcamp put on by Hans Johnson and Jeff Usner in Dallas, TX.

I must say I was impressed.  The information was great but both Hans Johnson and Jeff Usner worked very hard to provide a lot of information to the attendees.  Both days went really long.  In fact, Hans Johnson presented on Saturday and he started at 9:00 am and went to around 1:30 am.  Jeff Usner started on Sunday at 9:00 and went to about 9:00 – 9:30 pm.

During the Saturday presentation Hans Johnson talked about using WordPress to quickly get your website up.  Although his discussion was excellent, I spoke to many of the attendees during the breaks and found that many were still confused.
